Male Infertility

Back to Patient Education »

When a couple is experiencing difficulty in conceiving a baby, about half the time there is a male factor contributing to the problem.  At the Dallas Center for Pelvic Medicine, located in Dallas Texas, the male patient is addressed with a comprehensive approach tailored to the needs of the individual couple.  A detailed history of both the male and female partner will be obtained followed by the appropriate physical exam.  Any previous testing, such as semen analysis, will be reviewed in detail with the couple so that everyone involved is as informed as possible.  Based upon this information, Dr. Dan French, in conjunction with the patient and his partner, will formulate a plan for additional evaluation or treatment that is customized for each couple.  Our goal is to optimize the male partner’s reproductive potential to allow the couple to conceive by their preferred method, whether that be by natural conception or assisted reproductive technologies.

Common conditions associated with male infertility include:

  • Varicocele
  • Various types of genital tract obstruction
  • Hypogonadism (hormonal imbalance or low testosterone)
  • Congenital Absence of Vas Deferens
  • Leukocytospermia (infection or inflammation of the genital tract)
  • Environmental factors
  • Retrograde Ejaculation
  • Genetic factors

We strive to offer state of the art medical and surgical therapy.  Treatment is tailored to the individual patient but medical therapy may consist of treatment of underlying infections, hormonal manipulation, or simply alterations in lifestyle.

Surgical procedures available include:

  • Microsurgical Vasectomy Reversal (both vasovasostomy and vasoepididymostomy)
  • Microsurgical Varicocele Ligation
